LEESBURG — Alpharetta-based Oaks Senior Living LLC and Savannah-based Development Associates Inc. announced on Wednesday the development of a new assisted living and Alzheimer’s care community in Leesburg.

Site work began in March on the 10-acre development, which is expected to be complete by summer 2018. The official groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site, 145 Oakland Parkway, on Wednesday.

The Oaks at Oakland Plantation, with its location off U.S. Highway 82, is expected to offer services for senior citizens throughout Lee and Dougherty counties as well as nearby communities such as Sasser and Dawson.

The single-story community is expected to be home to nearly 80 seniors and will bring more than 60 jobs to Leesburg. The property will feature 48 assisted-living apartments and 20 memory care apartments.

In addition to personal care, the community will offer on-site amenities such as a media room, chapel, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dental services, podiatry services, a beauty salon, barber shop, Wi-Fi, a concierge, housekeeping, laundry service and transportation to shopping and banking.

Officials said social, educational, recreational and spiritual programs will provide opportunities for any resident to stay active and engaged in everyday life.

“The Leesburg community will be one of the finest communities to be added to the Oaks portfolio,” Oaks Senior Living CEO Alex Salabarria said. “The Oaks strives to operate communities for seniors that are not just fee-for-service models but home environments that create lifestyles for the members that live there.”

Officials said Development Associates has been developing real estate in the Southeast since the early ’80s and decided a few years ago to focus on developing senior housing because of the industry’s demographics and ability to impact so many families on a personal level.

DAI and Oaks have formed a joint venture to develop a portfolio of assisted-living/memory care communities throughout the region. Officials said Leesburg has experienced growth over the last 15 years and is lacking in senior housing community services.

“Oakland Plantation will provide an interactive and socially stimulating atmosphere for the residents, which will allow for a high level of independence and quality of life,” officials with The Oaks said. “The Oaks provides a backstop of support and care when it’s required for each resident and tailors that support to individual needs or requests.

“This will be the first community of its kind in Leesburg, which is why we’re so excited to open the doors and begin serving the needs of the community.”

The Oaks has a family-owned and -operated executive team that has been providing senior living in Georgia since 1998. For more info, call Oaks Senior Living at (770) 888-4683.
