New restaurant opens in Leesburg: Hog-N-Bones

LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) – You now have a new dining choice in Lee County and a way to support a locally-owned business.

Hog-N-Bones opened Friday on Highway 82.

It’s near Salt Lick Sausage Company, about a mile north of the Albany Mall.

People in Tifton may recognize the name, as there is another location in Tifton and also in Douglas.

We’re told the owner of these restaurants has deep roots in South Georgia.

“We hire all local people. We’re a big part of the community. We reach out into the community. We get involved with the community and that’s something special. We want to know everyone’s first names when they walk in the door, so we can remember them and whenever they come they know our names and can trust us for good quality service and food,” said Justin Garny, the General Manager.

The restaurant is open for breakfast early at 6 a.m. each day.

They close at 9 p.m. each night and are open every day, except Sunday.

Greystone at Oakland Apartments nearing completion in southern Lee County

The new apartments should be move-in ready by spring

LEESBURG — Greystone at Oakland, a new upscale apartment development off U.S. Highway 82 northwest of Albany, is nearing completion with an opening expected this spring.

Located in the Oakland Plantation community in southern Lee County, Greystone is targeting empty-nesters and families looking to downsize while still having amenities like stainless appliances and hardwood flooring.

Move-in dates are expected in late March or early April.

“We’re really excited about this new development,” Property Manager Kimbery Tabb said last week, adding that “considering where we are in the construction, it makes us very happy.”

The complex will feature more than 240 high-end residential units in size ranging from 906-square-foot one-bedroom units to 1,700-square-foot three-bedroom apartments. Apartment rental costs will range from $840-$860 for a one-bedroom unit, $1,100-$1,125 for two bedrooms and $1,250-$1,275 for three bedrooms.

William Hancock, president of Webb Properties, the broker for Oakland Plantation Partners, said the new development “is kicked up and ready to go.”

“It’s going to be a unique apartment community from the standpoint that it’s a very nice, upscale development that’s targeted to empty-nesters and others looking to downsize from their current situation,” Hancock said.

Some of the amenities in the apartment complex, which will be a gated community, are a 24-four fitness center with spin room, alarm systems, a dog run, a dog spa, a clubhouse, quartz countertops, a saltwater swimming pool, sunrooms, tanning beds and garages.

Greystone is part of the greater Oakland Plantation development area. That 800-acre site includes a gourmet grocery store, a bank, churches, a medical surgery center, a dental office and a childcare facility.

The area has the added benefit of being located on the Rails to Trails project that will connect Oakland Plantation to downtown Albany and Sasser. A rest stop park at Oakland will provide access not only to the trail, but to the Lee County Library at Oakland and other parts of the planned community.

The Oaks at Oakland Plantation breaks ground in Leesburg

LEESBURG — Alpharetta-based Oaks Senior Living LLC and Savannah-based Development Associates Inc. announced on Wednesday the development of a new assisted living and Alzheimer’s care community in Leesburg.

Site work began in March on the 10-acre development, which is expected to be complete by summer 2018. The official groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site, 145 Oakland Parkway, on Wednesday.

The Oaks at Oakland Plantation, with its location off U.S. Highway 82, is expected to offer services for senior citizens throughout Lee and Dougherty counties as well as nearby communities such as Sasser and Dawson.

The single-story community is expected to be home to nearly 80 seniors and will bring more than 60 jobs to Leesburg. The property will feature 48 assisted-living apartments and 20 memory care apartments.

In addition to personal care, the community will offer on-site amenities such as a media room, chapel, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dental services, podiatry services, a beauty salon, barber shop, Wi-Fi, a concierge, housekeeping, laundry service and transportation to shopping and banking.

Officials said social, educational, recreational and spiritual programs will provide opportunities for any resident to stay active and engaged in everyday life.

“The Leesburg community will be one of the finest communities to be added to the Oaks portfolio,” Oaks Senior Living CEO Alex Salabarria said. “The Oaks strives to operate communities for seniors that are not just fee-for-service models but home environments that create lifestyles for the members that live there.”

Officials said Development Associates has been developing real estate in the Southeast since the early ’80s and decided a few years ago to focus on developing senior housing because of the industry’s demographics and ability to impact so many families on a personal level.

DAI and Oaks have formed a joint venture to develop a portfolio of assisted-living/memory care communities throughout the region. Officials said Leesburg has experienced growth over the last 15 years and is lacking in senior housing community services.

“Oakland Plantation will provide an interactive and socially stimulating atmosphere for the residents, which will allow for a high level of independence and quality of life,” officials with The Oaks said. “The Oaks provides a backstop of support and care when it’s required for each resident and tailors that support to individual needs or requests.

“This will be the first community of its kind in Leesburg, which is why we’re so excited to open the doors and begin serving the needs of the community.”

The Oaks has a family-owned and -operated executive team that has been providing senior living in Georgia since 1998. For more info, call Oaks Senior Living at (770) 888-4683.
